This system was chosen as the van already had a Webasto air heater fitted, so it did not make sense to fit a hydronic heater. If the batteries are fully charged, a 12V element heats the water using excess power from solar or the DC-DC charger. Other ways of heating are to use the 230V element or to heat the water using the heat from the air heater.
